Los Angeles -- Saturday

We are staying just north of L.A. and we drove down to Santa Monica and then had lunch at Gary's favorite deli, Canter's on Fairfax. Yummy.

Vista, CA -- Thursday

We had a very nice dinner with my aunt and uncle, Karen and Bobby, who live near San Diego. They have an amazing amount of plants on their property.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

We are staying at a great RV park in Ajo, AZ which is about 40 miles from the Mexican border. Today, we drove to see the cacti monument which is on the border with Mexico and it was awesome. They have a 21 mile loop on a gravel road which views all the plants and mountains. It was so worth coming down here.

Rock Springs Cafe

Today, we are staying just north of Phoenix and our sole purpose for stopping here was to enjoy the pie at the cafe. We had lunch and pie and bought a whole peach pie to go. Yum. We had a very relaxing day which we needed.

Sedona

We are staying just south of Flagstaff and east of Sedona. We drove to Sedona today for some sightseeing, shopping and lunch at a Mexican restaurant. We had a great time. We saw a Catholic chapel built right into the rocks and a modest home near there.

More Grand Canyon Pictures

Here are a couple of pictures of us with our friends Renee and Janice having lunch at El Tovar and on a walk at the rim of the Grand Canyon.

CANYON de CHELLY--Wednesday, October 13

Yesterday, we took a tour of Canyon de Chelly (shay) which is in northeastern Arizona. It has many Anasazi ruins, pictagraphs and petroglyphs. We were in a huge, modified truck that was open in the back and carried about 12 people and we drove over a sandy riverbed. It was very cool. We stayed 2 nights in the park there with no hook-ups and it went surprisingly well. We had enough water to both be able to shower and wash our hair both mornings. Tonight, we are near Sedona with lots of amenities.

Monday--Monument Valley

Today, we took a tour to Mystery Valley which is part of Monument Valley that can only be seen with a Navajo guide. We saw arches, Anasazi ruins and petroglyphs. It was a pretty amazing day.
Tomorrow, we are travelling to Canyon de Chelly and the campground there has no hook-ups (how will I survive?) so I'm not sure when we will post our next blog. We expect to be there 2 nights and then back to civilization.

Sunday--Monument Valley

When we arrived on Sunday, we drove our truck through Monument Valley. It is a 17 mile drive on an unpaved road which is extremely rough. It was very beautiful but a very bumpy ride.
