Put-in-Bay, Ohio

Perry's Monument

The World Famous Chicken Patio
What more do you need?

Today, we took the ferry to South Bass Island and rented a golf cart. It wasn't the best day--it was raining when we got up but it cleared by late morning. It was cold and windy and not much was open but we had a great day. We had a nice lunch on the world famous Chicken Patio. The biggest disappointment was that Perry's monument is still closed--we were here 2 years ago and it was closed for repairs then.

Marblehead Peninsula, OH

Today, we are staying in Sandusky, Ohio. My parents used to bring us here to Bay Point when we were kids to go camping--we had a lot of great times. It's now a resort and golf course--no more camping.

Detroit

We visited my brother, Darryl, his wife Suzette and her daughter, Savannah yesterday and had a very pleasant visit.

Corbin, KY

We stopped here in Corbin last night and decided to stay an extra night because this is such a nice RV park. We went to Cumberland Falls State Park, then visited the Colonel Harlen Sanders museum near where KFC got its start. It was very lame. But we still had a very nice day and are glad we spent the extra time here.

Asheville-Day 3

Cedric's Pub
Garden

Today, we toured the Biltmore Estate built by George Vanderbilt and the largest privately owned home in the U.S. The house is 135,00 square feet and it sits on 8,000 acres of land--it was pretty incredible. We had lunch at Cedric's Pub which was named after his St. Bernard. We had a very nice day--and I wore my Gloria Vanderbilt jeans.

Asheville Day 2

Today, we started out on the Blue Ridge Parkway but it soon became very foggy and the temperature dropped to 39 degrees. We decided to drive back to Asheville and walk around downtown. They restored the food counter at the Woolworth's and have some great restored and repurposed buildings.

Asheville, NC

Today, we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At the end, we drove through Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We had a very nice day although it was a bit much driving.  This is such a beautiful area that we decided to stay an extra day.

Fort Moultrie/USS Yorktown

It was raining like crazy on our way into Charleston today and I was concerned about staying an extra day but things cleared up. We visited Fort Moultrie which is directly accross from Fort Sumter on Sullivan's Island. It was used during the Revolutionary War and up until the late 1940's. We had lunch at Poe's Tavern--all the menu items were named after Edgar Allen Poe poems and it was very good. Then, we visited the USS Yorktown. Again, we had a very nice day.
