Haymarket, Virginia

We've had 3 nights without wi-fi so we came to Starbucks to get our fix. Tomorrow, we will be in Cherry Hill, Maryland for 4 nights and we will post some pictures. Today, we are visiting the Manassas Battlefield and it is stinking hot.

Baileyton, Tennessee

We didn't take any pictures today--all we did was drive. We did get caught in a huge thunderstorm and we didn't enjoy that. The storm is over and we are relaxing. Tomorrow, we will do the same thing (hopefully, minus the storm) so there will be no pictures.

Nashville

We arrived here early this afternoon and we were both tired so we got a late start on sightseeing. We went downtown and while walking around saw the Ryman Auditorium and had dinner at a great bbq joint--Jack's. Gary visited with Elvis--there were quite a number of them on the street. Also, we saw the state capitol and the Cumberland River. I would like to come back and spend more time.

Memphis, Tennesse

Today, we are staying at the Graceland RV Park. And we are probably the only ones here who didn't visit Graceland. I got pulled over by the Mississippi State Police and that sure got my adrenaline pumping. I pulled over into the left lane because someone was stopped on the shoulder and he thought I was weaving. I knew I wasn't speeding since we don't go over 60 mph.

Vicksburg, Mississippi Tuesday May 25

Yesterday, we arrived in Vicksburg early in the afternoon and took a driving tour through the military park. The man in the office at our RV park let us use an audio tour CD which was very helpful. It's hard to believe that such a huge battle was fought there--it was so peaceful. It was a beautiful memorial to the men who fought.

New Orleans

New Orleans

We had a great day today in New Orleans. We took a 2 hour tour at 9:00 but before that we went to the Cafe du Monde for coffee and beignets. It was the perfect way to start the day. After the tour, we walked around and had lunch. It is so hot and humid here! We just had a thunderstorm so I'm sure the humidity will only get worse. The pictures include a church, Joan of Arc and the Mississippi River.

Beaumont Texas to New Orleans

We left San Antonio on Saturday morning and stayed overnight in Beaumont, Texas. Sunday morning, while driving to New Orleans, one of our trailer tires blew. I was driving and didn't even feel it--fortunately, someone honked and the woman passenger said tire. It probably just happened so at least the rim wasn't ruined. We were on I-10 and the shoulder was not very wide and there was lots of traffic. I don't want to have that happen again. We bought a new tire today at Wal-Mart so at least it was an easy fix. We do have some damage to the trailer but it could have been worse. Here a few pictures we took on the drive.

San Antonio

We had a really good time in San Antonio. We took a one hour trolley tour of the city and a 35 minute boat ride along the Riverwalk. We didn't get to see any of the missions but we did walk throught the Alamo. We also had dinner on the Riverwalk which was very pleasant. Our main purpose in visiting San Antonio was to see Gary's daughter and her 3 kids. We spent 2 very nice afternoons with them--it's too bad San Antonio is so far away. Today, we travelled. Up until San Antonio, it was cool and I have to say we are not enjoying the humidity.

Texas

It was a short day with few pictures--we stopped early to get caught up on laundry and blogging. Tomorrow, we leave for San Antonio.

Carlsbad Caverns--Monday

We took 2 self-guided tours through the caverns and thoroughly enjoyed them. The pictures just don't capture the size and beauty.

En Route to Carlsbad

We drove from Santa Fe to Carlsbad and passed through Roswell, New Mexico and took some photos. After we settled in, we drove to Carlsbad Caverns to watch the bats fly at sunset and we saw none. The night before, they counted 30. Not quite the 350,000 that fly in July--it was a disappointment.
